5 Digital Trends Small Businesses Need to Focus on What digital trends do small businesses need to focus on in 2016 in order to improve their business? From analysing data analytics, to embracing new social media platforms, new advice is being dished out all the time, so what should small businesses take on board? This infographic by Cube provides small businesses with everything that they need to know to achieve success this year. 1) Focus on return on investment: SMBs need to move beyond vanity metrics. Even if their audience are present on a platform such as Snapchat, they must think about whether it will bring them any sort of ROI. 2) Think global instead of local: With technology at our fingertips, businesses dont need to be limited to their local area. Online stores such as Amazon can sell globally, so theres no reason you couldnt too. 3) Personalisation is key In order to stand out online, its important to personalise your content and provide something a bit different. Different email and marketing tools allow you to customise your material before sending it out. 4) Focus on analytics Monitor you web analytics to see what tactics improved or hindered your conversion rate. 5) Prioritise mobile These days people use mobile for everything from conducting research, to making purchases. For this reason, it is essential that you have a mobile friendly website/ email software. 6) Use influencer marketing Rather than distributing your brand messages yourself, get influencers on board to get the word out. How to Maintain a Long-Distance Friendship
How to Maintain a Long-Distance Friendship How to Maintain a Long-Distance Friendship When you go travelling or live abroad for an extended period of time or you have a friend who moves country, itâs normal to think youâll stay in touch. With the breadth of communication options available today, itâs hard to imagine that your friendship could suffer from being a long-distance one. Jessica y Ely (CC BY 2.0) by barnigomez However, unless you make a concerted effort to look after a friendship, it can easily dwindle over time and diminish in importance until eventually all you actually do is check out each otherâs Facebook updates. So how best to avoid this happening to you? Like every relationship, friendships need a certain amount of maintenance. Thatâs not to say staying close should become a burden, just follow these tips to make sure distance doesnât alter the close knits you share. Regular Catch-ups While apps like WhatsApp are fantastic for day-to-day messaging, be careful to avoid the trap of not speaking on a regular basis. Hearing a friendâs voice is so different to reading their words. You can share stories of your week much better in a real conversation and if you have anything serious to discuss, thereâs no danger of written messages being misinterpreted. Sometimes itâs not possible to get the right tone when youâre writing an email, for example, and a hastily sent message could actually upset your friend if youâve not thought carefully enough about how you phrase it. With apps like Messenger, Skype and WhatsApp offering free voice calls, the cost of calling internationally is no longer an issue. We all know itâs sometimes hard to find time to talk, especially if thereâs a time difference to consider, but work out a regular slot that is good for you both to have a chat, and make sure you schedule it into your diaries. Though this may sound a bit too clinical and endanger the spontaneity of your friendship, if it means you can stay in touch, itâll be worth doing. Send Real Gifts Just because you live in another country, thereâs no excuse not to mark special occasions such as birthdays or Christmas. Of course, the internet has made it so much easier to send gifts internationally, but many of us take the lazy option and send vouchers. Itâs easy, but from a recipientâs point of view, a voucher doesnât show youâve given the gift much thought. ?? A fast delivery HAPPYBDAY from Mi (CC BY 2.0) by Sara Cimino International gifts donât have to lack imagination. Using a site such as FloraQueen makes it easy to pick out the perfect present for your friend and have it delivered to their door. The site specialises in international flowers delivery and has a huge selection of bouquets and floral arrangements to choose from. You know yourself the thrill you get when an unexpected florist delivery arrives for you; so make your friendâs day special in the same way. And if flowers arenât your friendâs thing, then Floraqueen has plenty of other gift ideas to choose from. Factor in Some Quality Time Just because you live in a different country, it doesnât mean you canât get together every now and then. We all have a limited amount of holiday time, of course, but thereâs nothing like spending time together to protect and nurture your friendship. If you can, arrange a shared holiday. You could visit each other or meet somewhere in the middle if itâs easier. With so many cheap flight options today, itâs no big deal to make a girlsâ weekend in another country and enjoy discovering a city together, as long as your friend doesnât live on the other side of the world. When a friend is really important to you, it will be a wrench if one of you decides to live or work abroad. But if you really value the relationship, itâs worth going the extra mile to make sure your long-distance friendship remains a close one. Title Image Credit: Pixabay

How to Advance to The Next Step In Your Career
How to Advance to The Next Step In Your Career There is lots of information out there for job seekers to advance their careers, but what about those job seekers that are already in a job? Those who want a new job or a new position but arenât sure how to get there? Set Goals and Pursue Them When it comes to your career, you need to set a few, small achievable goals that you want to achieve. There are lots of different methods for testing and tracking goals, such as RUMBA â" each goal should be Reasonable, Understandable, Measureable, Behavioural and Agreed Upon. Work with your current employer to achieve them too. You have to make your current situation work for you, so if you have skills that arenât being utilised at work, then actively seek a way to make it happen. Alternatively, you could ask your boss to give you more responsibilities. Know Your Strengths and Weaknesses Knowing your strengths and weaknesses is an important part of improving yourself. Without that knowledge, you donât know how you will be perceived and what you should play on or not. Reflecting on your performance and behaviour at work will help you understand where you might be at a disadvantage, and therefore give you an opportunity to analyse and improve your skills, experience or behaviour. If youâre working in a team at work, then you should also know their strengths and weaknesses, this will help you no end if youâre ever given work to delegate. Volunteering Think about your weaknesses and consider whether volunteering might help you strengthen any skills or experience that you canât get that support from your employer. Make sure that you know how much time you can commit and for how long before you start, as this will make it much easier to find the right role. Education The typical tip for career advancement â" education and qualifications. While many feel that the âeducation partâ of your life is over when you graduate, itâs much better to continue to learn throughout your life. Specifically, you can make more informed decisions about what you want to achieve with your qualification if you make it after this specific period of your life, and youâre more likely to work hard to achieve it. Vocational training courses like the ones from Tutorcare, offer you specific qualifications to help you advance your career, some of which are available to do on the job.

15 New Years Reward Ideas for Employee of the Year CareerMetis.com
15 New Years Reward Ideas for Employee of the Year While some organizations find it to be a costly endeavor, Employee of the Year award is important in recognizing and appreciating employees in various departments of your company. You recognize them for their hard work and commitment in their respective roles in the company. Not only is it a source of intrinsic motivation and satisfaction, but it also reduces employee turnover as well as enhancing organizational culture. New Year is the perfect time to appreciate your employeesâ efforts for the past year.evalThis should look beyond the ordinary New Year incentives such as an office party. There are quite a number of reward options that companies can adopt without necessarily being extravagant. Here is an outline of 15 of those ideas.1) A Work from Home WeekIf you want to retain a talented and skilled employee, you have to recognize and appreciate their input in their respective roles in your company. This involves rewarding them with something unique that will create a competitive a tmosphere at the workplace as all other employees work hard to have their efforts recognized as well â" what better way to do this than to give them a whole work-from-home week.Commuting to work can sometimes be stressful, so why not give the employee of the year a break from their commute by giving them a chance to work from home. This could be a great new yearâs reward as they slowly adapt to the working environment after the festive season.2) Romantic Dinner Cruise for TwoDue to tight working schedules, employees barely have time to enjoy a romantic dinner with their spouses. This creates a tense mood both at work and at home. However, you can help ease that tension by rewarding the best employee with dinner for two on a cruise. Spending time with people you care about makes you happy and reduces stress levels. Therefore, giving the employee of the year a fully booked dinner cruise for two is a perfect way to reward their loyalty.3) Spa DayEveryone desires some âme timeâ ev ery once in a while. Smooth music, a good massage and any other form of pampering is a dream come true for every working person. It reduces work pressure and rejuvenates your energy.A fully paid spa day could be an excellent reward for the most hardworking employee. It is not only a great way to refresh for a new year at work, but it also gives the employee time to take care of their body. If your budget allows it, you can treat the employee with two tickets to the spa. Let them choose who they will spend the day at the spa. This has also been proven to inspire other employees to be diligent enough for a reward at the end of the year. The competitive environment in your company translates to increased productivity.4) A Free Lunch TreatevalIf the overall performance of your employees is commendable, then you can decide to buy them lunch for the excellent performance that year. As part of appreciating the employee of the year, you can let them order their favorite meal and let them sha re with the other employees at the office. To add a personal touch to your free lunch reward, you can decide to bring in a private chef, who will make different in-house delicacies for your employees. Everyone loves good food, so let them have different unique dishes to celebrate their contribution to the company.5) An Adventurous Day OutResearch has, over the years, proving the importance of physical exercises to the high performance at workplaces. There is a relationship between a physically fit employee and efficiency at their workplaces. A physically fit employee tends to be more active and productive than one who is not.To encourage an exercising culture in your company, you should consider awarding the best employee with a physically engaging adventure. This does not mean some time at the gym; instead, give them some time to enjoy physically active outdoor activities like hiking, zip-lining, or kayaking, something out of their norm.evalThis outdoor experience will boost their e nergy levels when they return to work, and they will also have something to share with their colleagues.6) The Honor to Dine with the BossDining with the boss is a highly regarded endeavor. Employees may have limited access to the boss, depending on their position at the company; that is why sharing a meal with them is considered to be a sign of honor and respect. It is therefore advised to invite the best-performing employees to a new year dinner in the best restaurant. Let them order their favorite meal and strike a conversation with them. Give them a chance to express themselves about how they feel about your company. While dining, avoid awkward moments by striking interesting discussions that will allow the employee to air their views as well.7) A Holiday TripRecent studies show that employees have a positive preference for non-cash incentives over money. One of the most ideal non-cash incentives that you can reward the employee of the year with is a holiday trip. Offering an em ployee a travel incentive to a cozy destination increases their loyalty to the company in addition to boosting their morale.Krabi is an affordable and excellent choice for a small company. December happens to be the most popular months to visit Krabi. This means that Krabi will be coming to life for visitors. Here they can explore tourist attractions, shopping for souvenirs, engage in different leisure activities, and interact with diverse cultures.New Year celebrations come as the closure of the holiday season, and most employees are looking for the best ways to wrap up the year. Also, collective memories play an essential role in the success of an organization. Sending the employees of the year to a holiday trip might be costly, but it enhances engagement among employees, which is fundamental to a companyâs progress.8) Best Employee of the Year RecognitionThe Employee of the Year award creates a healthy competition amongst employees. When companies set out such awards as part of their organizational culture, most employees put more effort into meeting the criteria for becoming the best for a particular year. Such efforts include increased productivity, exceptional leadership qualities, crossing some milestones, time-consciousness, excellence in performance, and team accomplishments.Recognition of the best employee in a year can be done through the issuance of a certificate, a trophy, or a Wall of Fame. You can top up the recognition with some incentives and you will notice increased productivity in your company as more employees strive to be recognized for their contribution to the company.9) Cash AwardAlthough money is not a long-term motivator for most employees, it goes a long way in complementing their efforts to an organization. Money becomes a satisfactory factor when received as recognition for oneâs contribution over the year. Companies offering cash awards have a fixed amount of money issued to the best employee for a particular year.evalBeing th e beginning of a new year, the cash token becomes a great source of facilitating an individualâs financial resolutions. You should give cash rewards to the best performing employees as a motivation to keep working even harder. You can decide on a pay rise for them, or simply a bonus as a token of appreciation for their contribution to the company.10) VIP Parking PassThere are a significant number of parking slots designated for employees in a company. Only a few of these slots are reserved for executives and distinguished guests to the company. As a way of rewarding the best employee for a particular year, organizations can set out a recognition policy that issues a VIP Parking Pass to such an employee. The VIP Parking Pass should outline the duration within which the best employee of the year should park their car at the executive slots. Most institutions will feature a one-year VIP Parking Pass.11) Retention BonusWhen companies undergo tough business cycles such as acquisition, m ergers, or a recession, they tend to retrench employees to save the company from collapsing. A retention bonus is a reward to particular employees, assuring them of retention during such business cycles. A retention bonus is a great deal for every organization, and workers will have their hands on their jobs to ensure they attain it.Rewarding the employee of the year with a retention bonus is quite a significant endeavor for them. Most employees will reciprocate this with loyalty, productivity, punctuality, efficiency, and quality performance.eval12) Bonus LeaveWork leave is a fundamental component of employees and organizations. This is a period to regenerate, refresh, and spend extensive moments with their family or loved ones. Giving an additional bonus leave to the employee of the year without disrupting their annual leave is an excellent way of rewarding their efforts for that year. Bonus leaves offered during the Christmas and New Year seasons are highly appreciated. You can de cide to give your employee of the year a bonus leave this New Year so they can spend more time with their families during the festive season. Offering some family hotels during the New Year season that the company can get a discount for them. This will earn you loyalty from the employee as they also work hard to obtain the award the following year.13) Tickets to an EventIt is a festive season, and there are numerous events taking place around this time. Whether it is a social event, cultural, religious, or an entertainment event, every employee wants to have fun with friends and colleagues. You can enquire from the employee of the year to see which event they would love to go to.Ensure that you issue double or triple tickets to allow the employee to bring along one or two friends. If an employee is a football fan, giving them tickets to an upcoming match would be a great deal for them.14) A Handwritten Appreciation NoteThis is probably the cheapest means that a company can adopt to appreciate the efforts of an employee. A handwritten appreciation note is quite a significant gesture for an employee, especially when done by the boss. This is because most of the notes, emails, or text messages employees receive over the year are formal, official, and work-related. An appreciation note, to an employee, is a sign of care, concern, and recognition of effort. Most employers or executives dismiss appreciation notes citing their inefficiency in this digital era. But that is where the point lies. Employees in this digital age are spending their time on social media platforms, digital networks, and digital communications. It can only speak much when an employee receives a handwritten note. It gives your appreciation message a personal touch that will make the employee feel special to you and your company. In the note, recognize the employeeâs role towards the growth of the company that year and their tireless hard work and contribution to their respective department. Ack nowledge their efforts and simply tell them how you appreciate them.15) Peer to Peer RecognitionPeer to peer recognition is one of the most effective ways of enhancing productivity, employee engagement, and reducing employee turnover. Contrary to all the aforementioned ideas, peer to peer recognition is the only reward method that is done by fellow colleagues. This kind of recognition is essential to an employee, noting that it is coming from individuals who have worked with them over the years.Companies can implement this method by developing a peer to peer recognition book for the employee of the year. Other employees can then write personal comments on this book, which will eventually go to the shelves of the employee of the year. Their comments would include an appreciation for the employeeâs efforts throughout the year, an outline of their character, and a highlight of what workers love about them. This type of reward gives the employee of the year a sense of belonging to the company as well as a special feeling working with people who appreciate their effort and hard work. This will create a friendly environment in the workplace for all employees, which will translate to high productivity. In ConclusionYour New Year reward to the best employee of the year does not need to be anything extravagant. You just need to come up with something that will show the employee that you recognize their hard work.Whether you choose to leave them a thank you note for being actively involved in the companyâs growth in the past year, or you decide to go the extra mile to fund a holiday for the employee and his family, a New Year reward will go a long way to motivating the employees as well as creating a healthy competitive workplace while keeping employee turnover to a minimum.

Writing a Unique Resume Cover Letter - Personalization in Writing a Successful Cover Letter
Writing a Unique Resume Cover Letter - Personalization in Writing a Successful Cover LetterWriting a unique resume cover letter can help your chances of being hired over the competition. Whether you are applying for an entry level position or if you are a seasoned professional, you need to have a strong resume to get that interview call. Here are some tips to make sure that you are presenting your best self.Know Your Interests Before You Start To write a letter for a resume, you need to know what you are interested in. If you are an English major, you should know what areas you enjoy studying. Include that in your cover letter. Use your interest in the area of employment and then talk about that in the letter.Do not be afraid to include your hobbies and interests in your resume. It can be a great addition and can really highlight what you can do. Also mention any awards you have won as an employee at your company. You should also mention any such details such as a special talent that was something that made you stand out. If you had an initiative to improve the company's productivity by making a software program that was proven to work, that can be added in. Give examples of projects that will give your potential employer a taste of who you are.Make Sure The Letter Follows The Company's Style Write a letter that is professional, written in a confident voice and that reflects the tone of the business you are applying for. Do not use an exaggerated style. If you have done a lot of time off for maternity or the birth of a baby, do not highlight that in your cover letter.Keep an open mind and accept the fact that there is only one person who will read your letter. If they are looking for someone with a common experience, you need to make sure that your application does not reflect that experience. Focus on the unique skills and qualities that make you stand out from the competition.Make sure to write something that will be suitable for the person's honest feelings. Do not be too personal. At the same time, never send a cover letter that has no personality or appeal.Make sure that your letter is long enough to be appealing. They will usually read more than one page and want something that is short but still effective. Include the basics that most hiring managers ask for and take some time to get to know them on a personal level. Then follow up with a phone call or two.
